Phillies drop spring opener to Bucs

On Wed. the Phils opened up their Spring Training season with a loss to the Pirates, 8-2. Jamie Moyer opened up the game strong with two scoreless innings for the Phils. But after the Pirates got on the board in the 3rd inning it began to get ugly. Joe Bisenius got hit with the loss giving up four runs on two hits including a home run to Shelby Ford. In the fifth Phillies hurler Scott Nestor gave up three runs making the score 8-1 Bucs. The Phillies could only muster one more run the rest of the game and lost it by a score of 8-2. For the Phillies the lone offensive bright spot was Jeremy Slayden, who had 2 hits including a double. The Phils only had 7 hits. Dave Borkowski, Jake Woods, and Mike Koplove,a Philly native, all pitched one scoreless inning for the Phillies. For the Pirates Donald Veal got the win pitching a scoreless inning.
