Phillies skid continues

The Phillies losing streak continued on Friday 10-3. Andrew Carpenter gave up four runs and could not even record a single out in a 10-3 loss to the Reds. The Phillies are now 0-3, although luckily these games don't really count. Pablo Ozuna hit a homerun for the Phillies, the lone bright spot(other then the bullpen(well sort of...)) on offense. J.C. Romero, Ryan Madson, and Dave Borkowski all pitched one or more scoreless innings. Daryl Thompson picked up the win for the Reds. Joey Votto also had a home run for the Reds. The Phillies will try again to snap their losing streak when the Devil Rays come to Clearwater. The game will be televised nationally by MLB Network.

Feliz may not be ready for Opening Day

As reported by Beerleaguer, who has a great Phillies blog , Phillies 3rd Baseman Pedro Feliz may not be ready for Opening Day. Comcast's Leslie Gudel updated Feliz's progress tonight on SportsNight and quoted manager Charlie Manuel on CSNPhilly.com. "It's gonna be close," Manuel told Gudel. "We'll see what our trainers say." Feliz, who arrived in camp today, said Gudel. Other Options to replace him may be Nomar Garciapara, who the Phils have been close to signing lately but it just hasn't happened yet. UT Miguel Cairo have also be another option. If I am a Phillies fan, which I am, I am hoping he will be ready becasue honestly I don't like the other options.

Phillies Spring Training Notes 2/19/09

Phillies and Mets trash talks heat up: After Cole Hamels called the Mets "choke artists" in December on a New York Radio station, the annual Mets-Phillies trash talks are heating up. It all started with Jimmy Rollins two years ago and has been going strong so far. Both times though the Mets did choke and the Phillies prevailed and of course last year winning the World Series. Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez on Saturday called the Mets the team to beat in the NL East. Carlos Beltran also said that in 2008, but unlike Rollins, he couldn't deliver. Beltran kiddingly told New York reporters Tuesday that Cole Hamels, "will be watched every time he faces us and hopefully we kill him. Then he has to deal with the situation." Source phillies.com
Utley still hopeful for Opening Day: Phils' second baseman Chase Utley is still hopeful of playing on Opening Day. Utley had to a hip surgically repaired over the offseason.
Hamels not worries over SI cover jinx: Next week when you pick up a Sports Illustrated Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels will be on it. There is a jinx for the SI cover after many players did not play well or got injured shortly after being on the cover. Hamels however is not worried about it and says as long as he is not on the Madden NFL game cover he is fine. I agree with him.

On Saturday all of the Phils pitchers and catchers reported to Spring Training in Clearwater,FL at Bright House Works Complex also home to the Phillies 'A' affiliate the Clearwater Thrashers.
